The Body Shop: LYB loves green…

Are you an LYB (Love Your Body) member of The Body Shop?  It’s The Body Shop’s club with a membership card that rewards you with discounts, free gifts and access to different perks and privileges. I’ve been a member of LYB since 2009 but I always lose my ID card.  Yes, I am “burara” like that. (laughs)

Now, The Body Shop decided to put an end to plastic membership cards and adopt a technology that enables its members to access their LYB membership anytime, using an iPad, iPhone or iTouch.  Android users need not worry, as it will be available for you too in a few months.

PVC is the most used material for membership, loyalty, or
credit cards. On average 36 grams of CO₂ is generated for every plastic
card produced. Globally, over 10 billion plastic cards are produced every year
for marketing purposes. Hence, 50
million kilograms of plastic waste and 200,000 tons of CO2
emissions are generated. To counter the CO₂
effects of card production, we need at least 9.2 million trees.

To avail of your virtual membership card, all you need is an iPhone, iPad or iTouch and download a free app called Perkd.  You just sign up and search for The Body Shop’s LYB card, have it scanned and voila, you can now use it anytime, anywhere…no need for that extra plastic card on your wallet.

Yey, at least now I don’t have to worry about losing my membership card.

Each time you’ll make a purchase, you can just hand over your gadget to the cashier so they can have it scanned and points will be added on your virtual ID.

The Body Shop Philippines is the first in the Asia Pacific to adapt this technology…cool!

For now, they will still be using this Rewards Card for your stamps. But they have plans of making it virtual too!

 It’s time to cut your LYB card and go green instead!
